Ahead of the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, the Ministry of Youth and Sports through the Ghana Football Association has written to several clubs in Europe for the release of their players ahead of the tournament.
October 20, is the date slated for the foreign based players to join the rest of the local based players,who are already in camp, to step up preparations for the U-23 AFCON.
According to the spokesperson for the MOYS,Kofi Asare Brako, the ministry has tasked the Acting General Secretary to see to to it that the clubs have released their players in a bid to aid the facilitation of air tickets for the players.
“The Acting General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Alex Asante has been tasked to contact their teams abroad for their release so we can purchase their tickets on time as they join their colleagues at home before they emplane for the tournament early next month”.
It is still unclear if the clubs will release the players for the competition since majority of the players will still be needed by their clubs in mid season.Ghana are in group A with host nation Egypt, Cameroon and Mali.The competition which will serve as qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo will start on November 8 .
